Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Distill collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Distill to be respectful of your data — we collect only what we need to run the Service.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: email address, display name, and authentication identifiers when you sign up (including via Apple or Google).
- Usage data: videos you summarize, saved summaries, watch history, preferences, and follow lists.
- Device & app data: basic diagnostics, app version, and crash logs to keep the Service reliable.
- Payment data: subscriptions are processed by Apple (or Google). We do not receive your full payment card number.
Guest users receive an anonymous identifier via Firebase. We do not sell your personal information.
2. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Generate and store summaries, quizzes, and your library.
- Sync your data across devices when you have an account.
- Enforce usage limits and process subscriptions.
- Improve reliability, security, and product features.
- Respond to support requests.
3. AI processing
To create summaries, video transcripts and metadata are sent to our servers and third-party AI providers (such as Google Gemini and Groq) for processing. This content is used to produce your summary and is cached to avoid redundant processing. We do not use your content to train third-party foundation models without your consent.
4. Service providers
We work with trusted providers who help us operate Distill, including:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication and cloud database
- Google Cloud / Gemini — AI summarization
- Groq — AI summarization for eligible videos
- YouTube Data API — video metadata
- RevenueCat & Apple — subscription management
- Railway — application hosting
These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations. We may disclose information if required by law.
5. Data retention
We retain your data while your account is active. Cached summaries may be stored to improve performance for all users. You may delete your account from the app, which removes your personal library and profile data, subject to short backup retention and legal requirements.
6. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to production systems is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Contact us at help@distill.lol to make a request. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA; EU/UK users may have rights under GDPR.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided us data.
9. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on distill.lol with an updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
